It’s been a cold winter so far – but at Solara, we’re not about hibernating.

In the spirit of bringing a little more fizz to your winter, we’ve been poking around to find some great events to add to the calendar. See one for each state below - ranging from the delicious, to the different, to the dancefloor.

Canberra, ACT: Night at the Museum: Play! – 30 August

Get your game on for a night of neon, mixtapes, skate stunts, and epic dance moves as the museum rewinds to the 90s for Night at the Museum: Play! You’ll experience incredible skate stunts, shoot some hoops, or join the breakdance crew before diving into the pop-up arcade. Unwind in the games lounge, catch a lightning talk by a play professional, or channel your creativity in one of the workshops from acrobatics to dance-offs.

Before the night ends, Tigerlily—Australia’s number one female DJ—will light up the dancefloor with tunes for an electric dance party you won’t forget.

Before you head out, enjoy a pre-event cocktail at home with a glass of your favourite sparkling, for a night of fun and nostalgia! Find out more.

Hobart, TAS: Hobart Twilight Market at Brooke Street Pier – 30 August

Soak up the last of the winter air at the Hobart Twilight Market. Held at Brooke Street Pier on selected Fridays throughout the year from 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm, this market offers a vibrant mix of street food, cocktails, live music, and local design. Enjoy discovering Tasmania’s top-notch produce with a variety of food and small-batch drinks and live tunes from local talent. It’s a fantastic way to kick off the weekend, and with its dog and family-friendly vibe, it’s perfect for everyone! Find out more.

Melbourne, VIC: Queen Victoria Winter Night Market – now until 28 August

You don’t picture Melbourne CBD and think about an open fire to gather around, but you’ll find it at the Queen Victoria Winter Night Markets. Every Wednesday, 35 traders set up shop to bring you mulled wine, spiced Milo, piping hot soup and heaps more – and you’ll catch performers and tarot readers as you go. You can also hit the market stalls and pick up some vintage fashion, jewellery, art… you name it. Rug up and get out there! Find out more.

Perth, WA: Ministry of Sound, Testament – 30 August

The ‘90s and ‘00s produced some of the most iconic dance tracks of all time – and Ministry of Sound (MoS) is feeling nostalgic. With Laidback Luke, Mousse T, X-Press 2 and a bunch of stellar supporters like Australia’s own Dirty South, it’s hitting Perth’s Metro City from 7pm till 2am.

In their own words, “late night communities were formed on the dancefloor. Lifelong friendships cemented over deep 4am conversations, soundtracked by pure euphoria.” So if it’s time for a nostalgic dancefloor debut, lock it in. Find out more.

Fleurieu Peninsula, SA: Fleurieu Food Festival – through August

If you head 40 minutes south of Adelaide, you’ll find the Fleurieu peninsula. Born as a way to showcase the producers in the region, you’ll be able to get amongst the vineyards, olive groves, and farms to experience the peninsula. Get stuck into a cooking class, eat and drink to your heart’s content – and if you like getting your hands dirty, go truffle foraging. Head to the events page to see what’s on offer. Find out more.

Darwin, NT: Lost Dogs Disco, Darwin Festival – 8-25 August

An August average of 25 degrees celcius makes the Top End a great place to escape to if the winter blues are getting too much. Aside from the pleasant temps, these warm days and nights host the Darwin Festival, with heaps of events, markets, shows and more.

But it’s the Lost Dogs Disco that caught our eye – where you’ll dial up the fizz to new levels. Head into the illuminated installation of giant dogs, be greeted as a disco dog, and interact with them as you dance the day away. Find out more.

Brisbane, QLD: Riverfire at Rydges South Bank – 31 August

Enjoy front-row seats to the Riverfire fireworks spectacle at Brisbane's biggest night of fireworks and music. Sip cocktails at Soleil Pool Bar before and after the show or book a balcony room and order room service for the night. From your room, you’ll almost hear the whoosh of the sky-high fireworks. Sparkle, sip, and stay for the best light show of the year! Find out more.
