There are all kinds of ways to live with fizz, all year long – no matter the weather, the occasion, or where you find yourself in the world. Some extra sunshine and warmth definitely makes it a little easier, though!
So, if you’ve ever dreamed about spending a year (or two) swapping grey days for blue skies, winter days for summer nights and sweaters for swimmers, we’ve got you sorted. Here are our recommendations for chasing the sun from January to December – so you can live with fizz all year long.
(And the only thing cold is the prosecco!)
January to March
Let’s kick things off closer to home. In the first few months of the year, you can chase the sun right here in Australia. For big city fun, Melbourne swaps ‘four seasons in one day’ for countless events like the Australian Open and the Grand Prix – and while most of North Queensland might be in its wet season, Byron Bay is far enough south of the border to welcome you for a sun-filled summer staycation.
If you do want to head overseas, the Southern hemisphere is still your go-to. The picturesque thrills of Queenstown in New Zealand are at their peak in the early months, or you could soak up the surf, scenery and street cred of South Africa’s Cape Town.
April to June
Winter’s on its way to the Southern hemisphere, which means it’s time to head north for an early spring awakening. You could start with time in Japan, as April is Sakura season. Once you’ve soaked up all the baby-pink beauty, you could head east for California, USA – where Los Angeles, San Francisco and the Napa Valley are all ready and waiting to welcome you.
You’ll find just as much waiting for you if you go west. Like Marrakech in Morocco – a vibrant, multi-coloured oasis that is at its peak before summer scorches the desert. Or Lisbon, Portugal – whose tiled, coastal streets are stunning at this time of year. Find your spot at golden hour, raise a glass and enjoy living with fizz on the shore of the Med.
July to September
Summer in the northern hemisphere is in full swing around this time of year. The question isn’t where you’ll go, but where you’ll go first?
Our recommendation is always Veneto, Italy – the birthplace of prosecco, of course. You’ll be hard-pressed to find another destination that’s as fitting for living with fizz (although somewhere near the sea like the Amalfi Coast would make a great alternative).
The Greek Islands are bursting with energy around this time if you’re looking for a picture-perfect party spot. If you miss the big city though, summer is the season of the Big Apple – New York. Everyone’s out to play and you’d have an incredible few months doing the same.
Haven’t made it out of Australia? You’re still in luck – the Whitsundays are at their most radiant during this time of year, as its dry season up north. Especially if you’re from one of the country’s colder regions.
October to December
Time to head to the southern hemisphere again as the year draws to a close – but there’s still countless destinations fit for chasing the sun. Much of South America is thriving at this time of year, if salsa dancing under the stars as the jacarandas bloom in Bueno Aires sounds like your kind of good time. October is the tail end of Bali’s dry season too, making it a great paradise pit stop for some end-of-year adventuring, or unwinding.
Coming back to Australia just in time for summer certainly doesn’t sting too severely, though – and you can’t beat Sydney at this time of year. Touch down from your travels, pop some Solara and keep the summertime vibes going.
Endless summer doesn’t have to be a pipe dream with a little extra planning. Whether you’re chasing the sun across continents, revisiting your fave sun-kissed spots, or even exploring home turf for its warmest destinations, there are all kinds of ways to live with fizz under the sun, all year long. Cheers to that.
Till next time,
Team Solara.
