When it comes to reducing your environmental impact, the smallest changes can make the biggest difference.

We make and bottle Solara at our home, Duxton Vineyards. And while we have a range of sustainable initiatives, we also focus on one of the key elements of Solara sparkling – the bottle you buy it in. Here are some ways we’re making our bottles better.

Lighter load
We love being able to send fizz out across the country, but we’re always looking for ways to lessen carbon emissions when we do.

That’s why we worked on reducing the weight of our 495-530g bottles. Today, we send our wine out in bottles weighing 360-370g. That’s a reduction of 135-160g respectively – and it means we can pack more bottles by weight in our transport containers without adding to fuel consumption.

Recycled glass
We’re proud to say we’ve always had recycled glass in our bottles. But now, in partnership with Visy glass, we’ve been able to bring that to over 50% recycled glass in every bottle - significantly up from our previous maximum of 30%.

This change makes a significant difference, given that bottling is a vital part of our work.

Sustainable labels
Even the wine label is an important area to consider. We work with an independent printing business in Mildura called James Print, who make it possible for us to have labels that are made of 100% recycled material. They create them with their own sustainable manufacturing practices too.

Caps off
Bet you didn’t know there are entire companies dedicated just to bottle caps and closures?

We partner with one of these companies – Guala. They provide us with 50% recycled material in our caps. But they also have their own targets, namely aligning with the 1.5 degree climate target set out in the Paris Agreement.

We want to share more fizz with the world. And do our part to make sure it’s done sustainably.

Till next time,
Team Solara.
